内容/Content:
With the rapid development of China’s manufacturing industry, academics in Mainland China has gradually improved research on China’s contemporary industrial history and the history of workers in recent years. Reviving the studies on the industrialization process in the first thirty years of the People’s Republic of China becomes an important part for us to understand the course of China’s contemporary economic construction, and also to deepen our understanding of the whole historical trajectory of China’s modernization. Particular at a time when the aging of China’s population and the needs of constantly improving people’s living standards are all approaching, it requires us to undertake the development of China’s manufacturing industry to be more high-tech related, environment-friendly, and evolved into the advanced industrial chain, which will help the Chinese industrial development be in line with the current process of global industrialization upgrading. All of these requirements would help to identify the quantity and quality of the industrial population, so as to reach the so-called “engineer dividend” pattern as widely discussed among scholars. From this point of view, it is important for academia to revisit the study of industrial history, from a more comprehensive, professional and in-depth perspective, combing, examining and summarizing the experience and lessons from the course of contemporary China’s industrialization.
This seminar will base on the introduction of research content and some recent academic findings on the first thirty years of PRC’s industrial history, from which it is expected to reach a general but systematic understanding of the identification and protection of industrial heritage.
